The Chicago Cubs’ Spring Training schedule for the 2012 season features 35 games. The club will play 16 home games at HoHoKam Park, 17 road games in Arizona and two games in Las Vegas. Spring training report dates will be determined at a later time.

The Cubs begin their 2012 Cactus League schedule Sunday, March 4 against the Oakland Athletics at HoHoKam Park. The Cubs play the first three days of their spring slate at home before heading to Surprise to play their first road game at Kansas City on Wednesday, March 7.

The Cubs will make their annual trip to Las Vegas for a two-game weekend series March 17-18 against a to-be-determined opponent. The Cubs close out the spring on Tuesday, April 3 vs. the Milwaukee Brewers at HoHoKam Park. Additionally, the Cubs and White Sox square off twice next spring – Friday, March 9 in Glendale and Sunday, March 18 at HoHoKam.
Individual game tickets for the 2012 Chicago Cubs home spring training games at HoHoKam Park will go on sale Thursday, January 5, 2012 at 10 a.m. CST on www.cubs.com or by calling 1-800-905-3315. The ticket box office at HoHoKam Park will open for the sale of individual game tickets beginning January 17, 2012 at 9 a.m. MST.

Season tickets at HoHoKam Park go on sale Wednesday, January 4, 2012 9 a.m. MST and group tickets go on sale Thursday, January 5, 2012 at 9 a.m. MST at the HoHoKam box office or by calling 480-964-4467.

Average attendance records close out Cubs Spring Training season

The Chicago Cubs wrapped up their 2011 Spring Training season with 14 wins and 19 losses playing a total of 33 games. The Cubs fell from first place to fourth with an average attendance of 9,443 fans for the 2011 Spring Training season. Topping the list was the Arizona Diamondbacks with an average attendance of 11,161 followed by the Colorado Rockies with 10,598 and the San Francisco Giants with 10,036 in attendance.

“It’s not a surprise to us that our average attendance fell this year,” Hohokam Stadium Manger, Mark Gallo said. ”We knew once Salt River Fields opened up we would see slight decline in our attendance records. Plus, with the Giants winning the World Series, it was expected their attendance would go up.”

The Chicago Cubs for many years led the pack in attendance records during Spring Training. Even though they were not the leaders this year, they still managed to break their all time attendance record with 13,465 fans against the San Francisco Giants on March 20. Their fourth highest attendance record was also broken this year on March 18 against the Cincinnati Reds with 13,182 in attendance.

In the Cactus League’s Top Five season attendance records, the Chicago Cubs are still leaders with a record of 203,105 people set back in 2009. The Arizona Diamondbacks took third place this year with a record of 189,737 people.

Overall, the Cactus League drew in 1.59 million people this year which is the highest attendance record set thus far.

”As you can see the overall attendance record in the league went up,” Past-President of the Cactus League, Robert Brinton said. “That means more people are coming here to see a Spring Training game. We hope this trend will continue and our numbers will increase for next season.”

Cubs to Head to Mesa for Spring Training

For 2011 Spring Training, the Chicago Cubs will play 17 home games (plus one intrasquad game) at HoHoKam Park, 15 road games in Arizona and two games in Las Vegas against the Cincinnati Reds and Los Angeles Dodgers. The Cubs begin their 2011 Cactus League schedule Sunday, February 27, 2011, against the Oakland Athletics at HoHoKam Park. The Cubs play the first two days of their spring slate at home before heading to Scottsdale to play their first road game at the World Champion San Francisco Giants, March 1, 2011. San Francisco makes it lone visit to HoHoKam Park on Sunday, March 20, 2011.

The Cubs play six home games in the first nine days of the spring from February 27 through March 7, 2011, and play their 2011 home Cactus League finale on March 29, 2011, vs. the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Cubs also will play an intrasquad game to benefit Chicago Cubs Charities on Wednesday, March 30 (game time TBD). Additionally, the Cubs and White Sox square off twice this spring – Friday, March 11, 2011, in Glendale and Thursday, March 24, 2011, at HoHoKam.
